In Korea, there is a custom of eating wild greens from mountain. And we season them very simply with sesame oil, galic and salt to make side dishes. Now, it is illegal for the public to go up and dig wild greens or wild(Mountain) ginseng for various reasons. However, there is still a job called “Ssammani” in Korea, and they go up the mountain and dig wild ginseng and bellflower roots for sale.

Today, I would like to introduce the hotel you will stay in when you visit Baengnyeongdo. Unlike hotels in the cities, many residentials of farming and fishing villages in Korea are often used as guest houses or motels. We are informing you in advance as some people, who used to stay in business hotels, might feel uncomfortable about it.

This time, I went to “Baengnyeongdo” Island, located in the northernmost part of South Korea. Originally, it was the 14th largest island in Korea, but what’s interesting is that this island is now the 8th largest island through several reclamation projects. Through the reclamation project, the agricultural area has expanded, and many people make a living in agriculture. That is why even if Baengnyeongdo is an island, only 10% of the workforce are fishermen.
