In Korea, there is a custom of eating wild greens from mountain. And we season them very simply with sesame oil, galic and salt to make side dishes. Now, it is illegal for the public to go up and dig wild greens or wild(Mountain) ginseng for various reasons. However, there is still a job called “Ssammani” in Korea, and they go up the mountain and dig wild ginseng and bellflower roots for sale.

 

 

He is explaining the grass called “Jandae,” that when women gave birth, they boiled these herbs and drank them as warm tea. Sweet tea water comes out and is said to be very good for the woman’s body. In Korea, there is a custom of warming up for about a month after childbirth and eating food that is good for body recovery.

 

 

In the mountain not only wild greens can be found but also the remains of the war left during the Korean War. (1950’s) Where did the explosives come from? That kind of weapon didn’t exist in Korea because Korea was poor country at that time. In the Punch Bowl area in Yang-gu, Gangwon-do, agricultural products called ‘Siregi’ are well known. Punch bowl area is a topographical feature surrounded by mountains, and the daily temperature range widens in winter. Siregi is an agricultural product made using this climate. The radish leaves are cut and dried, but when it is cold and left in the sun, high-quality radish leaves that remain nutritious are produced.

 

 

Grandmother Ji Young-soon, whose hometown is Yang-gu, Gangwon-do, separated from her family during the Korean War and fled to Gyeongju on foot for a month. Three years later, she came back to Yanggu to plant beans and make and sell cheonggukjang and hand tofu made from them. She’s been making hand-made tofu for 30 years. She says Yanggu, her hometown, is the best wherever she goes.

 

 

The fourth tunnel discovered in the 1990s is in Yanggu. A tunnel is a cave where North Korea dug an underground road to secretly invade South Korea. So far, a total of four tunnels has been found, including Yanggu. Before entering here, you have to wear a helmet and you can never take a picture. The fourth one found 12 years after the first one was discovered in 1978, we don’t know if North Korea will be digging the fifth tunnel somewhere.
