Chungpyeong Lake is located in the southern part of Jecheon City in Chungpyeon-myeon. The name Chungpyeon-myeon comes from the phrase “Chungpyeon Myeongwol,” which means “clear wind and bright moon.”

To enjoy the panoramic view of Chungpyeong Lake, the best spot is Bifongsan. To reach Bifongsan, the Chungpyeong Lake Cable Car is the perfect choice. The Chungpyeong Lake Cable Car runs between Multae-ri Station and Bifongsan Station, covering a distance of 2.3 km. There are 46 10-seat cable cars that can take you to the top of Bifongsan in about 9 minutes. However, the word “transportation” does not fully describe the journey. Along the way to Bifongsan Station, a stunning view unfolds. It’s like a moving observation deck. The view starts from Mangwol-san, which rises behind Multae-ri Station, and ends with the majestic ridges of Wolchulsan and Sobaeksan. In between, the winter Namhangang River winds quietly through the landscape, making the name “Lake” very fitting.

The Bibongsan summit, where the cable car stops, is at an altitude of 531 meters. Bifongsan means “Phoenix Peak” because it resembles the shape of a phoenix. It is also called “Mabong” because it looks like a hawk flying. In other words, it’s like looking down at the world through the eyes of a phoenix or a hawk. This symbolism is also fitting for the beginning of a new year. After passing through the cable car boarding and exiting the third floor, the viewing deck is refreshing. Follow the stairs to the 4th floor “Bifong Sky Observatory” and continue to the 5th floor outdoor observation deck. Compared to other cable car summit viewing platforms, the advantage is that it is much wider, allowing you to move around and enjoy a 360° view in all directions.
